With summer around the corner and my birthday just days away, it seemed like the perfect time to add some new pieces to my wardrobe. Over the past two years, I have learnt to be more responsible with shopping and so when I treat myself to something new nowadays, it feels that much more special. Since my wardrobe has not seen many new additions for a while, I wanted to share these three pretty items that are making me look forward to warm summer days exploring England. I know that I don’t usually share fashion here but lately I have been feeling a little uninspired with my content so I wanted to throw in something new to freshen it up a little. I hope you enjoy it!
One of my favourite boards to follow on Pinterest is Farmhouse1711’s prairie board. It’s full of beautiful, nostalgic summer photos: from farmhouse interiors to countryside greenery, and everything in between. Scrolling through this board takes me back to an imagined past of slow mornings reading outside, fresh linen sheets and delicacies in the kitchen. It ended up subconsciously being the inspiration behind this summer look – with maybe a little Emma Hill thrown in for a more modern take.
Ecru and cotton are always a winning combination for this time of year, especially on pieces that are more adapted to an English summer. This blouse has three-quarter length sleeves which means that we can wear it and still feel summery even if the weather has a mind of its own that day. One of the things that I’ve learnt over the years is that my body is only happy in natural fabrics like cotton, silk, linen and some viscose. Like every summer, Zara has a lovely collection of 100% cotton blouses in all shades of white at the moment but it was this particular one that caught my eye. The fluted sleeves are so sweet and really complete the silhouette.
As soon as I saw the scallop hem on these shorts, I fell in love instantly. For me, basics with a slight twist are always an ideal choice – easy to wear with lots of things but with that little bit of detail that makes it more special. Being (almost) in my mid-twenties now, I can no longer get away with short shorts, especially out and about in the countryside in England! What I love about these is the relaxed, slightly longer fit. My sister described them as close to mom style but I like to wear them a little lower since a) I have practically no torso in relation to legs and b) the sizes are quite generous. The denim and hem detail will add a modern twist to the embroidered blouse above. I also really love how these are styled on the model with a chunky knit and delicate heels so I think I will try this look over the weekend for a different style.
Last summer, the round cross-body seemed to grace every outfit with a little touch of sunshine. Now we have endless options ranging from the very true-to-form baskets to more adventurous styles that could easily fit a small fluffy companion. With materials like straw and raffia, I always worry about catching the bag on my clothes so I wanted one that I could carry in my hand away from any delicate summer fabrics. Although I don’t usually shop there, this one from Topshop is really simple and also roomy enough to fit my camera for days out. Worn with the denim shorts and white blouse, it will complete the romantic prairie vibe. I’ve also planned to pair it with a floaty white dress and heels on my birthday for a versatile day-to-evening summery look. Fingers crossed for some sun!
All I need now is a pair of simple sliders in a nice neutral or tan shade to complete the outfit. On a side note, putting this post together has been so much fun and reminded me just how much I love clothes and accessories. I’m wondering whether I should start incorporating more style here in my little online space… With the change in season coming up again and having to find fresh ways to re-wear timeless items, it might be just what I need to get out of this creative lull. What do you think?
